Snake removal near Fort Collins's western edge, where development meets the foothill terrain prairie rattlesnakes favor.
Call (844) 924-1337Long before Camp Collins was established here in 1864, the ground this city now sits on was native shortgrass prairie, exactly the habitat the prairie rattlesnake still favors today wherever open grassland survives at the edges of Fort Collins's newer neighborhoods. That history matters because the western edge of the city, where recent subdivisions meet undeveloped rangeland heading toward the foothills, still functions as real snake habitat rather than empty space waiting to be built on.
Cooling temperatures push these snakes toward paved surfaces that still hold the day's warmth, whether that's a driveway, a trail, or a sun exposed patio, so spring and fall crossings cluster in those specific spots rather than happening evenly all season. Actual bites remain uncommon statewide, even in areas known for dense rattlesnake activity, but that's not a reason to treat a sighting near these newer western edge properties casually. Keep a safe distance and avoid trying to catch or corner it yourself, especially if you're not sure of the species. Describe the sighting to PestGuardians; identification and an assessment of possible entry gaps can help determine the next step.
If it's a one-time sighting and the snake moves on its own, that's often the end of it. A snake that repeatedly appears in one area, or whose species is uncertain, warrants professional assessment; do not try to capture or relocate it yourself.
For a snake in or around your home, describe the sighting from a distance and discuss the identification and access concerns before removal is planned. Call PestGuardians to discuss your pest concern and check local service availability.
