Bat removal for Cañon City, relevant as white nose syndrome spreads through Colorado's bat populations for the first time.
Call (844) 924-1337La Junta, where Colorado's first confirmed white nose syndrome case in a bat turned up, sits close enough to Cañon City that the discovery is directly relevant here, not just a statewide statistic. The positive result, found in a Yuma bat in 2023, followed earlier detections of the fungus itself, without illness yet showing up, in a handful of other counties tracked by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Since as many as 13 of Colorado's 19 native bat species are considered vulnerable to the disease, colonies losing ground to it elsewhere in the state may push more bats toward barns, older brick buildings, and cabins scattered through the canyon country around Cañon City instead of natural roosts. This is a recent, still unfolding shift tied to the disease's arrival, not a pattern that's had years to settle, so both the older structures downtown and outbuildings near the canyon are worth checking for bats looking to resettle. Bat removal from an attic is typically handled through exclusion: sealing off other potential entry points, installing one-way devices at the main entry so bats can leave to feed but can't get back in, then sealing that opening once the roost is confirmed empty. Bat exclusion calls for a professional assessment of the species, roost, and appropriate timing; do not attempt to seal an occupied roost yourself.
The same exclusion approach used for attics applies to bats roosting elsewhere in a house, soffits, eaves, chimneys, or wall voids. An exclusion assessment should identify active openings and consider the roost before any entry points are closed.
Coverage varies by policy and provider, and many policies treat wildlife exclusion differently than damage repair. Check directly with your insurance provider about what your specific policy covers before assuming either way.
Bat removal pricing depends on your location, the extent of the roost, access conditions, and the exclusion work required. Call PestGuardians to discuss the work needed in Cañon City and request pricing for your situation.
